Twenty-two Pirtek Renegades traditional teams
filled the pits on Saturday to take part in the 24th Annual Jerry
Richert Memorial Sprint Car Race at Cedar Lake Speedway. With the Hoosier Tire
North heat #1 going to Cam Schafer. Edison Aldrich claimed the James Ackerley
Construction/Rapid Press heat race #2, and Brad Peterson took the Kiki’s Salsa
heat race #3, while Chris Lewis raced from seventh to second in heat three to
top all drivers with 118 passing points.
After the redraw for the Pirtek Feature
lineup, it was Mark Martin
and Peterson setting the pace for the 20-lap feature, with the 93
of Peterson holding the lead spot, and by lap three, fifth-starting Cam Schafer
occupied second position, with Lewis, Martin and Scott Brandt in tow. At the
double the winningest driver in UMSS history added to his tally, as Schafer
parked in Pirtek Victory Lane. Following Schafer to the line were Peterson, Lewis,
Jack Berger and Widdes.
The Pirtek Renegades next event will be to
round out our 2024 season where the winged sprints join the traditionals to
take part in Cedar Lake’s 19th Annual Legendary 100 on Thursday,
Friday and Sat, Sept 12th, 13th, and 14th 2024.

The Pirtek Renegades filled the wet and sticky pits on Saturday with the Winged Sprints out for the first time in 2024 joining the Traditional Sprints at Cedar Lake Speedway’s Spring Open Wheel Spectacular. Fourteen Traditional and 24 Winged teams checked in the back gate. In the heat race competition, for the Traditional Sprints, the Kiki’s Salsa heat 1 went to Cam Schafer and James Ackerley Construction heat 2 went to Brad Peterson, giving him 115 passing points. For the Winged Sprints, the Adams Estates heat 1 went to Jack Berger, while Rapid Press Printing and Copy Center heat 2 was claimed by Chris Vogel. Chase Viebrock picked up the Kiki’s Salsa Winged heat 3 victory. Chris Vogel raced from seventh to first in heat two to top all drivers with 130 passing points.

After the redraw, for the Traditional Sprints, it was Jori Hughes and Brad Peterson sitting in the front row for the sticky 20-lap feature. After a muddy race filled with a lot of moving and grooving, the #6 car of Jake Kouba made claim on the top spot with an impressive run from ninth starting position. Chasing Kouba to the Pirtek checkered flag were Cam Schafer, Brad Cunningham, Brad Peterson and Jori Hughes.

For the Winged Sprints, it was Trevor Serbus and Brady Donahue setting the pace for the 20-lap feature. It was a beehive of activity by all drivers for what was called an obstacle course type racetrack as drivers had to navigate a fast but rough racing surface. With several cautions, it was a real slobber knocker race, and Trevor Serbus held onto the point for the entire race, parking in the Pirtek Victory Lane. Following Serbus were Chase Viebrock, Owen Carlson, Jack Berger and Brett Peterson.

The Pirtek Renegades were back at their home track of Cedar Lake Speedway on Saturday, where the Traditional Sprints competed in the Dash #3 Race of the 2024 season. Twelve teams signed in to do battle, with the Kiki’s Salsa and James Ackerley Construction heat #1 going to Cam Schafer from last starting position. From the pole position, Bryan Roach claimed the Adams Estates/Rapid Press heat race #2, Schafer raced from sixth to first in heat one to top all drivers with 125 passing points.
After the redraw for the Pirtek Feature lineup it was Brad Peterson and Bryan Roach setting the pace for the 20-lap feature. It was a green, white, and checkered race, the 99 of Roach held the top spot for the first twelve laps, with Peterson second and Schafer working his way to third. Fifth-starting Schafer slid passed both Peterson and Roach to take the lead on lap twelve. Roach and Peterson fought for second the rest of the way. At the double checkers the winningest driver in UMSS history added to his tally as Cam Schafer parked in Pirtek Victory Lane. Chasing Schafer to the line were Roach, Peterson, Brad Cunningham, and Jake Kouba.
The Pirtek Renegades next event will be Saturday, May 4th at Cedar Lake, the Traditionals will join the Winged Sprints who get to start their 2024 season. Mid-summer like conditions greeted the traditional sprints of the Pirtek Renegades who returned to their home stomping grounds for the second event of the 2024 season at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin. Eighteen cars were on hand to qualify in a pair of heat races, with the Adams Estates/Kiki’s Salsa heat #1 going to Cam Schafer, while Jake Kouba nabbed the win in the James Ackerley Construction/Rapid Press heat race #2. Schafer bested all drivers amassing 130 passing points advancing from his seventh starting position to win his qualifier.
Brad Cunningham and Zach Nelson paced the field for the start of the Pirtek feature, with Cunningham scored as the leader after the first circuit. With five laps in the books, Schafer had taken over the top spot, leaving Jake Kouba and Cunningham dueling for runner-up ahead of Bryan Roach and Nelson. Keen spectators may have noted the #93 of Brad Petereson. Unable to complete his heat race due to a temperamental carburetor, “Surfin’ Safari” started 17th on the grid, and had surfed his way up to sixth by the crossed flags. A lap 15 caution bunched up the field with Schafer poised to score his second consecutive win, but Kouba wrestled away the top spot with three to go, and fended off myriad challenges from Schafer to secure his parking spot in Pirtek victory lane. Behind Kouba, it was Schafer, Roach, Peterson, and Zach Widdes rounding out the top five.
The Pirtek Renegades next event will be Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20, when both the winged and traditional sprints descend on CLS as part of Cedar Lake’s Legendary Opener. The Pirtek Renegades lifted the lid on the 2024 season with the Traditional Sprints competing in Cedar Lake Speedway’s season opener on Saturday. Seventeen teams checked in the back gate, with the Adams Estates/Kiki’s Salsa heat #1 going to Bryan Roach. Cam Schafer claimed the James Ackerley Construction/Rapid Press heat race #2, while Jake Kouba raced from seventh to third in heat one to top all drivers with 106 passing points.
After the redraw, it was Brad Cunningham and Carl “boom boom” Wade setting the pace for the 20-lap feature, with the 2c of Cunningham showing the fast way around the high banks early. By lap six, fourth-starting Cam Schafer and sixth-starting Jake Kouba occupied the lead spots, with the duo jousting for the win the remainder of the caution free affair. At the double checkers, the winningest driver in UMSS history added to his tally, as Cam Schafer parked in Pirtek Victory Lane. Following Schafer to the line were Kouba, Brad Peterson, Zach Widdes and Cunningham.
The Pirtek Renegades next event will be Saturday, April 13, when the traditionals return to CLS for the second night of regular season racing. The winged sprints join the traditionals the following weekend, Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20, as part of Cedar Lake’s Legendary Opener.
